Beattie anniversary 'not a celebration'

The Queensland opposition says voters should take time this week to reflect on nine years of failure and crises under the Beattie government.

Premier Peter Beattie this week celebrates nine years since Labor succeeded in forming a minority government with the support of independent MP Peter Wellington.

Mr Beattie is the state's third longest-serving premier, after Ned Hanlon and Sir Joh Bjelke-Petersen.

Deputy Liberal leader Mark McArdle said Queenslanders should use the milestone to reflect on failures in politicians' standards, electricity, hospitals, child safety and water.

"Two former members of the Beattie government are in jail and another is awaiting trial," Mr McArdle said.

"Several more were tossed out of parliament for electoral rorting.

"The ninth anniversary is a time to reflect on broken promises by Mr Beattie to fix the state's child protection system and to fix public hospitals."
